20 Vowel Phonemes - Sounds

In this video we explicitly teach the 20 vowel phonemes located on the THRASS chart. Phonemic awareness is important because it is critical for reading and spelling success. We demonstrate and explain the correct articulation and ensure their mouth and vocal track is open wide to produce the vowel phonemes. Children are encouraged to repeat the phonemes and build their articulation. Please note that if your child is struggling with a particular phoneme – sound, you can slow it down and get them to mimic your mouth movement. You may even want to provide them with a hand held mirror so they can see their mouth moving.
