Things you can do at home to prepare your child for school:

Allow your child to set the table.

Count the items in your shopping basket.

Read to your child daily.

Encourage your child to read basic words e.g. it, the, and, is ect.

Speak to your child about their day.

Sing songs together.

Play with blocks and make coloured patterns.

Encourage your child to play with play dough.

Encourage your child to cut pictures from junk mail.

Encourage your child to carry their own kindergarten bags to and from the centre.

Sing the Alphabet song together.

Encourage your child to make their own bed in the morning.

Encourage your child to pack up their toys.

Encourage your child to help you hang the clothes. This could be by passing the clothes to you or by getting the pegs.

Set an alarm clock for going to bed and waking up in the morning.

Explain to your child about making right and wrong choices.

Encourage your child to write their name, you could be creative by getting them to write on the shower screen.

Most importantly spend quality time ensuring your child feels loved, secure and free to be themselves.
