Our Programs

Literacy

LIVA Learning introduces children to the alphabet and sounds using a well researched teacher tool called THRASS (Teaching handwriting, reading and spelling skills).

THRASS focuses on:

  • Knowledge of the alphabet and the naming of the lower case letters and their capitals.
  • Using the correct terms from the beginning - letter, name, lower-case, capital, phoneme, grapheme, graph, digraph, trigraph, quadgraph, word.
  • The alphabet as a resource, from which letters are selected to represent the phonemes of spoken English.
  • Handwriting skills - The correct formation of lower-case and capital letters.
  • An awareness of the 44 phonemes (speech sounds) of spoken English.
  • An awareness of graphs, digraphs, trigraphs and quadgraphs (spelling choices).

A variety of texts are used to explore the qualities of a good reader i.e. grammar, initial sound, comprehension and prediction of texts and pictures.

Mathematics

LIVA Learning encourages a love for mathematics at a very young age using everyday hands on activities to explore mathematical concepts. We use rhymes for basic addition and subtraction, making it fun with movement and musical instruments. Also, number charts and concrete materials such as blocks, little teddies and the children themselves are used to explore number patterns.

Children will learn skills through engaging hands on activities, songs and movement, including instruments, art and craft, puppets, shared reading and games. As music offers many benefits “ increasing learning and improving mental focus”. By Stacey Chaloux.

LIVA Learning applies programs such as ‘Bounce Back’ and ‘You Can Do It’ during circle time sessions. These programs assist children in being confident young learners.

We focus on positive reinforcement and use rewards, which will help encourage children to perform. We also aim to teach children to make good choices and be responsible for their actions.

Upon completion, children will receive a certificate of achievement and also a personalized take home book that they can read to their parents and siblings. We will also encourage students to bring in objects beginning with the letter of the week.
